Grateful Dead was an American Rock band from Palo Alto, California that started in 1965. Their sound was a good blend of so many different genres including rock, psychedelia, modal jazz, folk, country, bluegrass, blues, reggae, space rock, experimental music, etc.
Original members include Jerry Garcia (lead guitar, vocals), Bob Weir (rhythm guitar, vocals), Ron “Pigpen” McKernan (keyboards, harmonica, vocals), Phil Less (bass, vocals) and Bill Kreutzmann (drums) and they founded it during the counterculture rise of the 1960s in the San Francisco Bay Area.
They were considered “The pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world.” Rolling Stone ranked them 57th in their The Greatest Artists of All time publication and in 1994 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
